Why Choose Eco-Friendly Toys?

Saturday, 22 September 2012

By this point everyone in the world knows that the environment is in trouble and that something needs to be done about it. It has become such a current issue that in most areas of life people are now trying harder to watch the environment and choose more eco-friendly products.

This has not passed by the toy industry, and this year  a huge variety of eco-friendly toys, games and puzzles have started to appear, much to the delight of environmentally aware parents everywhere. Eco friendly toys are made from safe and natural materials which do not harm the environment, and still perform their function just as well as toys made from man-made materials. Although the toys are advertised and environmentally friendly, parents should also find that there is a great range of toys in this area that will still thrill and excite children as much as a new games console or plastic building set.

In many ways, made from smooth wood and recycled paper, environmentally friendly toys can actually look more stylish than the more garish plastic items found in many toy shops. They can give an element of class to any toy room or living room, and may even be nice enough that you wouldn’t mind them left lying around in your home. They are generally more likely to be handmade and thus have a lot more time and effort put into them, meaning they look special enough that kids should love the look as well, and won’t resent the lack of electronics in their new toy!

Not only this, but when your children inevitably outgrow their newest toy, you should feel happier disposing of it knowing that it is made from biodegradable materials that will break down naturally and cause no harm to the environment whatsoever.

Some of the better eco-friendly toys include the FantasyLand Wooden Blocks by Haba. These blocks are made from smooth wood and come in brightly painted designs which will grab kids’ imaginations and look great in any room. Kids can build their own structures, tear them down and start again, which may not be the most futuristic form of entertainment but is a classic and fun activity that kids have enjoyed for hundreds of years. The blocks are also great quality, meaning they will last as long as you want them to, and can even be passed down to younger siblings.

For children looking for something a bit more futuristic, the Green Toys Build-a-Boutique is a mix and match flower set which allows kids to get inventive and create stunning plastic garden displays using a toy made from 100% recycled milk jugs that, once they have outgrown it, promises to be completely recyclable as well. The Build-a-Boutique contains none of the dangerous chemicals sometimes associated with plastics, such as PVC and phthalates so no harm will be done to the environment, or your children’s health.
